Major additions to the website have been added in recent weeks. Please spend some time browsing the various sections and bookmark those pages of interest. I am also soliciting your input for sources of information to add as well as suggestions for improvements in readability.
This page represents the beginning of a major redesign of the El Dorado County GenWeb site. Your feedback is most welcome!
All of the links on the El Dorado County GenWeb site have been verfied as of this date. One of my next chores will be to verify e-mail addresses. As always, if you have a change in your e-mail address or if you notice a broken link please let me know. Thanks for visiting.
In the River City it's hot, hectic and short of electricity. But I guess that is the case all over the state. Of the nearly one dozen bills aimed at protecting individual privacy and prevention of identification theft, little or no action has been taken since my last report. While one bill had amendments in committee, a week later, the amendments have not yet been posted. So, for the time being, we have very little to report.
Assembly Anthony Pescetti's new version of AB1779, [AB1368] to established the California Historic Cemetery Commission was scheduled for a hearing before the Business and Professions Committee, but was postponed by the author. I have not had time to follow-up to see, what if any, problem there is.
The Historic Cemetery Alliance is working to establish itself as a statewide organization, and has drawn input from both the Archaeological and Genealogical communities. Dr. Bob LaPerriere tells us in his article in the California Historian, to become a truly statewide organization we need members from the far northern, the central and southern part of the state to assist in networking, information gathering and to develop a system of regional representation. Presently, they have representation from Contra Costa, Alameda, Merced, Stanislaus, Yuba, Sutter, Nevada, Santa Cruz, Placer, El Dorado and Sacramento counties. Dr. Bob has begun to assemble a registry of California pioneer cemeteries, presently there is none. For more information on their goals and progress or to participate check their site: California Historic Cemeteries, Email: chac@inreach.com, fax (916) 481-8229, California Historic Cemetery Alliance, P.O. Box 255345, Sacramento, CA 95865-5345.
One additional bill regarding cemeteries in the legislature address the disposition of family burial plots, is AB322 by Bill Campbell. We will begin to track this bill, also.
If you wish to follow State Legislation you may check the State Web site at http://www.sen.ca.gov or order copies from the Bill Room, State Capital, Sacramento, CA 95814 or call to order 916-445-2323. To be added to my Network, send your name, name of your organization, and e-mail address, stating you wish to be added to the Legislative Network, to ijones@ns.net.
