I am interested in obtaining information about my father, Harold Gene
LONG, born in Marshall, TX on 19 Jul 1911. He lived around Oceanside,
California in the 1930's and 1940's. His California wife's first name
was Patricia (maiden name unknown). He owned and operated a circus/midway
called Long's United Shows. It burned to the ground in the late 1940's
and he moved to Houston, Tx in the early 50's and remarried. He died
over 23 years ago when I was a teenager and I am interested in finding
out about his earlylife, wife, other children. Any help is appreciated.

I am looking for any information relating to Castanos & Theresa
PAINE who emigrated from Maine in approximately 1869 and settled
in the Poway area. It is my understanding that Castanos was the first
postmaster at Poway and later lived in the San Pasqual and Julian areas.
My wife is his great- great grandaughter. I understand that there are
biographical sketches of Mr. PAINE in the 1883 and 1907 histories
of San Diego County and I've been told that the San Diego newspaper
did an article (perhaps more than one) before his death in March, 1913
(?). I am willing to reimburse expenses associated with copying, etc.

Obit for Alpheus J. IDEN who died Oct. 28, 1919. Was living
at 3372 Anna St. East San Diego, California at the time.

Looking for information on JAMES MILTON ROBINSON born Oct 23,
1841 MO, and came to Northern San Diego County with older brother Richard
"Dick" Biddle ROBINSON in 1880's. Couldn't get clear
title to some of the old mission land, so Dick went up and layed out
Long Beach where he settled and died. Milton or James (not sure which
he went by) stayed in Oceanside area. I've traced line to 1600's on
mother's side, and on Robinson's line to 1720's. Would love to learn
more. Other brothers: "Jack" JOHN Clark, CA Congressman: DAVID
VanLear, and WILLIAM "Bill" T. who also came to California,
but scattered through out. ANY information on these ROBINSON's
appreciated! Still searching R's grandmother line, etc.

immigrant who died between 1938-1939 in San Diego County of a heart
or brain related attack. He was married to Flora WALKER before
1931 and had two childern Rose and Rachel RESCH. The only other
possible relations are thought to have remained in Germany. One name
being Marie, suggested as either a sister or daughter, possibly of step-relation.

the Grossmont District Hospital in La Mesa. The attorney handling the
adoption was Minnie N. Maguire. It is imperative that I get in touch
with her (or atleast get access to her death/medical records) as there
are questions concerning a congenital heart condition I am afflicted
with.

I am searching for information on a Joaquin Zazueta 1828-1908, who
moved from San Francisco in the late 1870's early 1880's to San Diego.
He was listed in the San Francisco city directory late 1860's to late
1870's as a Jeweler. I found him in the San Diego city directory once
as a Spanish teacher in the early 1900's. He was married to a Victoria
Estudillo, when and where I do not know. Joaquin died in march (I think)
of 1908, I found him listed in the San Diego obits........services or
memorial was in St. Josephs catholic church. I am seeking any one who
has more information on him or any information on the Zazueta surname.
Zazueta is of Basque origin.

His obituary states that his wife was then residing in California with

c.1908 in Oregon, probably in Blaine, Tillamook Co. where his family
lived. In 1975 he was living in San Diego CA but I cannot find him in

He was or is the son of Leroy Perry Gray and Martha Emily Aldrich.
Martha's mother was the sister of my greatgrandmother.
Max was born after the Brewster Genealogy and the Aldrich genealogy
were printed (my starting point on the research of this family). I just
learned of his existence this week. I have no idea whether he marriedand
had children or when he moved to San Diego.

Today I received two death certificates from CA. One was Sarah Jeanette
MAYNARD, surname a scribbled word. She was born 14 Feb., 1854
in IL. She died while living at 900 18th St., San Diego, Ca, 24 Jan.,
1925. She was buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery and Benbough Funeral Parlor
handled her funeral. Her widower was Alfred MAYNARD, born in
England (date is wrong on death certificate), died 2 June, 1934 while
living at 6201 Tooley Ave, Encanto (hard to read word), San Diego Co.,
CA. He burned to death in a house fire of unknown origins at Tooley
Ave. Benbough Funeral Parlor handled his funeral and he is also buried
in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
I would very much like to find descendants of these MAYNARDs,
some children Thomas, Alfred Jr., Horace, Charles. I'm deadended at
the 1920 census in San Diego.

My Great-aunt Cecelia (DORZWEILER) DOUGLAS CAMP
has been trying to locate her sister-in-law (widow of Fidelis DORZWEILER)
Ann (OBRIEN) DORZWEILER BUCHANAN. She most recently
corresponded with her ca 1985-86 by telephone. At that time, Ann was
in Carlsbad, California in a retirement community. Cecelia sent several
letters around that time, and none were returned. Previously she lived
in Oceanside, California. Fidelis and Ann met in Colorado. My aunt told
me that Ann would have been 86 in November (1997 - 86 = 1911). I found
an SSDI entry for Ann BUCHANAN, born 28 NOV 1911, died APR 1995,
Residence 92057 (Oceanside, San Diego, California), SSN 523-30-8330,
card issued in Colorado. I am looking for anyone who knew Ann and/or
anyone who might be able to locate an obituary for the person named
in the SSDI, so I can determine if she is "our" Ann. If anyone
is interested in more information on any of these people, I have more.

I am looking for information on a John Donald MCKINNEY, born
in Cherokee Co. Alabama between 1905-1910. John Donald MCKINNEY's
father was John Wake MCKINNEY and his mothers name was Daisy
Ola both lived in Piedmont, Alabama. I do not know when John Donald
MCKINNEY moved to San Diego Co., California but I know he lived

Betty Jo Mckinney Carman is his daughter and she had an
address that he use to live at 145 Arran Street, Spring Valley,CA .
This address was given to her in the late 1960's. I am looking for information
that can lead me to finding John Donald MCKINNEY, if he is still
alive and if not an orbituary of when he did die. This is important
because it is to close a part of my grandmothers life she never really
knew. She meet her dad twice in her live and now hopes to find closure

Fair 1938, by train.On her return trip she went out of her way to stop
and visit with Gwenny JEFFRIES Dudley Harris at Frostburg, Maryland.
She stayed and visited for one month. I would like to know if anyone
has knowledge of Melissa JEFFRIES and what her relationship was
to my G G Grandmother, Gwenny JEFFRIES. Gweeny was born 11-July-1859
at Aberystwyth,a seaside resort on Cardigan Bay.One of the oldest municipal
boroughs of Wales. She died 2-January 1940. She came to America in 1866
(at age 7) with only her brother Thomas JEFFRIES (age 9) as her
companion.They were the wards of the Jenkin Davis family with whom they
resided on Welsh Hill in Frostburg , Maryland. Would appreciate any

about combat aviation based on personal experiences as fighter pilot

I am working on a biography of one of the many Peck families
who lived in western Pennsylvania. One of the members of this family
was James L. H. PECK, who I last knew to be residing in San Diego,
CA. He was a retired employee of TRW, Inc. of Redondo Beach and was
known for his activities in aviation and aviation writing. One source
of contact with him told me that he had passed away in the latter part
of 1996.

I am looking for any information pertaining to Alfonso (Alphonse?) Fernando
(Ferdinand?) ACOSTA, date of birth and death unknown, and his son James
ACOSTA, born May 1899, date of death unknown. Mr. ACOSTA'S wife's name
was Martha Blanch, her maiden name was RILEY, born in Ohio in June 13,
1868. She had two other sons by Mr. ACOSTA, Frederick, born 1892 and
Bertrand Blanchard, born January l, 1895. They lived at 725 Sixth St.,
San Diego, Ca., around the turn of the century, 1900. There is reason
to believe that Mr. ACOSTA might be related to the Mexican actor Rodolfo
Acosta, who starred in Mexicans movies in the 40's, 50's and 60's. He
may also be the inventor of a gold mining invention, patented in 1932.

Hampton Pangborn SLOANE of Ohio and Delia Grippen of New York had a
child, Samuel Lincoln SLOANE, believed born in Iowa on June 8, 1865.
Samuel Lincoln SLOANE moved to San Diego County in the late 1880's or
early 1890's. He was married to Mary F. CARREAL of Carthage, MO. Until
he was killed fighting a brush fire on September 15, 1909, Samuel &
Mary lived in Dehesa. Mary then moved with her seven children into San

My father, Robert Eugene (or Elmer) Dean, died July 1963 at Balboa Naval
Hospital and was buried at Rosecrans National Cemetary when we lived
in Spring Valley, but I can't seem to find any records of this. I know
that my facts are straight on this, because he was allowed to come home
from the hospital just long enough to celebrate my 13th birthday, then
had to go back. Shortly thereafter, he went into intensive care and
died either the 30th or 31st. If I can get his death records, I may
be able to find out what city or county in Oklahoma he was born. If
anyone can help me, I would appreciate it. Other info on him: his father
was James Stewart Dean, also from Oklahoma (died Wichita, Kansas in
1957) and (I think his mothers side) we also had some other relatives
in San Diego. Ray and Louise Hadley also had a home in Spring Valley.
Uncle Ray died first and I know that Aunt Louise was still alive when
I left the country in 1971. That was when I lost track of them. I would
also appreciate any info on them.

We are researching my wife's grandfather Albert COUSENS who emigrated
to the USA in the 1920's - his wife and sons stayed in England. We have
managed to find a copy of his death certificate - he died on 24 February
1966 (aged 84) in Reynard Way Convalescent Hospital, 3025 Reynard Way.
The informant was Edwin A MALING of 2934-5th Avenue - was he an official
or a friend of Albert? Alberts last residence was 401 Olive Street and
he had been in San Diego County for 10 years (previously in Illinois
area). Who is living there today? Are there any surviving relatives?
(We believe Albert remarried - Lucy - in the USA, and he is shown on
the death certificate as a widower.) Benbough Funeral Parlor handled
his funeral and he is buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Would there be records
at either of these places - we would particularly like to know if there
is a gravestone.

I am searching for more information on Joseph Lewellin Durbin. My family
history states that he traveled to San Fransico at the start of the
gold rush, bought supplies for a store and moved on to Marysville, Cal.
where he started the first store in that town, then he later invested
in orange groves near Fallbrook, Cal., which some of the land from became
part of the Marine Base at Camp Pendleton, Cal. I do not know the date
of his death, his wifes name, and only have the name of one of his children,
John Franklin Durbin B. abt 1856, D abt 1938, married Emma Francis Nichols
8/18/885. Anyone with information on these people or places please contact
me. Also if anyone knows how I might go about verifying some of this
