Jackson fire of 1862?
Can anyone give me a clue?

Does the 1860 Amador County census list a household for a GEORGE and
NANCY (HANSHEW) HICKS? This couple married
in Floyd County, KY in 1852, and I have not been able to trace them.
Several persons left
Floyd County in the 1850's to follow the Gold Rush. Did GEORGE and
NANCY HICKS follow the Gold Rush?
Thanks.

Recently a brother of mine remembered running across a grave
(cemetery)along the north
side of Jackson Highway, somewhere, perhaps close to the Ione cut off,
or perhaps, closer
to Jackson. He said it was on private property. Oddly enough, there was
a grave and a
marble slab with the family surname "TRUE".
I am curious if any one in this area may be aware of such a gold rush
cemetery.

Emma KINNEY BALLARD, Lewis BALLARD. Emma
Kinney Ballard lived in Ione, Amador Co.
for a number of years, certainly
from 1880 to 1910, and raised 6 children there, including Nellie May,
Blanche, Maude,
Clifford, Edwin and William Ballard, and
a stepson George Coffin. Her second
husband was Lewis E. Ballard,
who died between 1880 and 1910. She was my ggrandmother, and I am
researching her family
line. Emma Kinney was born in NY in 1854,
and both parents
were form NY, Lewis E. Ballard was from
Ohio, b. in 1855. I
suspect she was a nearly lifelong resident of Ione, but living in NJ it
is difficult to
research the history of the town. Can you give me any suggestions about
sources of
information on Emma Kinney or Lewis E. Ballard,
such as local cemetaries, newspapers, local histories, genealogical
societies, or how to
obtain access to county vital records. She owned her own house and was
self employed in
1910, living in Ione.
