R. V. S. Quigley
R. V. S. Quigley - Was born in Jefferson County, West Virginia, December 7,1833. His father was a physician. Young Quigley attended school till he was sixteen years of age, when he went to Hagerstown, Maryland, and engaged at clerking for two years. He then returned home and began reading medicine under his father. Finding this too confining, he went to Norfolk and began his former occupation, which he followed till he came to California. He crossed the plains, and arrived in Sutter County in September, 1853. In the fall of 1854 he began work on a ranch, and followed it for about six years. He was then in the sheriff's office as deputy and under sheriff for about eight years. He then spent a short time in the livery business in Yuba City. In 1870, on account of ill-health, he came to Lake County and settled on his present place in the lower end of Long Valley. He represented Lake County in the Legislature in 1875-6. He was married, June 13,1864, to Miss Margaret E. Linder, a native of Illinois. Their living children are, Nannie, Robert, Mary, Thomas and Lucy; and they have lost John and Julia.
