Chilcoot Cemetery
Chilcoot cemetery is located 29 miles north of Reno, Nevada on U.S. Highway 395
It is one of the first settlements in the Sierra Valley of California, being a stage station. This entire area is heavily agricultural, and many of those living in this valley are descended from the first settlers. There is a predominence of Swiss-Italian, and Italian families.
This census is not complete. A new highway was put through part of the cemetery, which originally was located on a gentle hill behind the stage station. This census is all that remains in the way of stones, and some had to pieced together. Inquiries have not brought forth any Sexton record.
There is a great over-lap of commerce and association between the Plumas, Sierra, Lassen and Nevada County areas of California, and those counties of Western Nevada - Washoe, Storey, Douglas and Ormsby.
Many of the names in Chilcoot and also Vinton, California cemetery are also found in the Nevada counties in marriage, birth and death records, as well as old newspapers.
The verses and inscriptions listed herein, are copied from the actual markers.
The Ede family and Giudici family, listed in this cemetery, also have plots in Vinton Cemetery, which is a much newer burial ground, and is located only three miles farther on the same highway.
