Counts, John Ellis and Willie (Shelton)

Mr. J.E. Counts, his wife and two sons were born in Texas. They left Ranger, Texas for Mr. Count's health, lived in Globe, Arizona for a time and, when his health failed to improve, came to Long Beach in 1900.

He engaged in real estate business with a partner under the title, Stearns-Counts Investment Comapny with an office at the south-east corner of Broadway and Pine. They subdivided much of Alamitos Heights

The Counts had two sons, Carroll M. and Gerald Alfred. Carroll was admitted to the bar in 1916 and continues his law practice in Long Beach at present. Gerald was appointed to West Point in 1913 and later became a Brig. General. He rose to prominance as an educator as well as a military leader. Until two years ago, he was Dean of the Military Academy at West Point.
