Founding Families Of Long Beach
Romero, Modesto and Ruth (Moreno)
The Romeros were from the original Californios. They were married in Los Angeles in 1878 and came to Long Beach in 1898. They farmed the land that is approximately bounded by Atlantic Avenue, Long Beach Boulevard, Spring Street and Wardlow Road. It was known as "The Hill". The land was rented or leased from the Bixby Ranch.
There were eleven children. In 1906 they built a home at 2096 Atlantic Avenue which at the time was in the country. The family still owns and resides at that address. There are six members of the family still living in Long Beach, John Rose (Heartley), Blanche (Walsh), Josephine (Jackson), Michael, Annette (Miller).
