Founding Families Of Long Beach

Schilling, William and Olive (Lower)

He came to Long Beach in 1886 and established a business at the corner of Broadway and Pine. In 1905, he sold it to the Buffums. Their original home was at Long Beach Boulevard and Third Street where the Post Office now stands. There were eighteen children. Two of the boys remained in Long Beach. Cecil became an architect and formed a partnership with his brother C. Arthur, who was a Civil Engineer. The firm was responsible for many buildings standing today in the City. C Arthur Schilling is now retired in Yucca. Cecil died in an automobile accident and was survived by Mrs. Lois Schilling Mettler and Robert who followed his father's profession and is a practicing architect in Long Beach.
