"Death Summons Frank Hardell"

Death last night claimed the life of Frank Theodore Harden, 84, prominent Madera grocer, who passed away at his home on North D Street at 7:20 o'clock. He had been ill for about six months with pneumonia complications setting in Friday which resulted in his death. Mr. Harden, a native of Illinois, came to Madera in 1893 with his wife the late Elizabeth Hardell, who passed away in 1929. Upon arrival here he followed the drayage and house moving trade until 1913 when he accepted a position with the Southern Pacific Railroad company as watchman. After working for the railroad for ten years, he retired and together with his daughter, Miss Ethel Hardell, has since operated the hardell grocery on North D Street. A man of sterling character he was highly esteemed by those who knew him. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Carrie A. Blood of Long Beach; Mrs. Grace Thome, Aromas; Mrs. Maude Noble, Raymond; and Miss Ethel Hardell of Madera; one son; Edward H. Hardell of Oakland; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Chapel of the Jay Mortuary. Dr. D.C. Williams will conduct the services. Internment will be in the Arbor Vitae cemetery.
