Death of Mother Leaves Six Orphans; The final chapter in the calamity that struck the William Stevens family was written Sunday morning when the mother passed away at a Modesto hospital, a week following the death of her husband at Stockton, leaving a new-born baby and five children ranging up to ten years of age. Stevens died as the result of injuries sustained in a boiler explosion and the shock was a contributing factor in the death of Mrs. Stevens. The latter was a daughter of Mrs. L. E. Lenzen and was 35 years of age. The body of Stevens was being held at Stockton for shipment to Oregon, but after the second death plans were changed and it was shipped here for a double funeral service, which was held Tuesday afternoon at the Presbyterian church with Rev. C. Ernest Davis officiating. Stevens had served an enlistment in the army, so that the American Legion took a part in the services. William Logan read the Legion commitment service at the grave and Bugler Manuel Knutson blew taps. Arrangements were in charge of Davis & Evans. Generous donations of clothing and supplies have flowed in to aid the practically destitute children and they are now well cared for the present, although their future is a problem to be worked out
