Agadoni, Albert 320729 p1

Albert Agadoni is Drowned in Fall From Sea Cliff; Albert Agadoni, until a few weeks ago a Patterson resident, was drowned Tuesday afternoon when he fell from a cliff into the ocean about a mile and a half from Davenport, north of Santa Cruz. Agadoni had left Sunnyvale, where he has a service station, that morning for a day's sea-fishing, accompanied by his brother in-law, James Fasola, and William Brill of Sunnyvale. They had established themselves on the cliff and were busy fishing when Jim went some way off for a better position. Looking across the rocks, he suddenly noticed that Albert had vanished, the only trace left being his hat floating on the waves. Waves were dashing high at that point and Fasola's theory was that Agadoni had seen a wave sweep up from behind on the point where he sat and had involuntarily dodged and lost his footing. Searching parties were organized as soon as possible to hunt for the body, a party of Sunnyvale American Legion members going over to aid Frank Totman of Santa Cruz, brother-in-law of the deceased, sighted the remains once and attempted to catch them in a net he had in the boat but was unsuccessful and the body disappeared again. Agadoni's handkerchief, pipe and pocket book were recovered from the water, however. The dangerous cliffs, rough water and beds of seaweed along the coast at that point made the search difficult and dangerous. Charles Gustafson, father of Mrs. Agadoni, has made a couple of trips over to render aid, and brought the three children back, but Mrs. Agadoni is staying at the coast till the hunt is successful. The deceased was 39 years of age, a native of Switzerland, and had been in this country about twenty years, much of the time in this vicinity. He was a leading worker in the activities of the Stanislaus County Swiss club, being secretary for a number of years, and was also active in the work on the Patterson Legion Post. Beside the wife and children, he is survived by his parents, living in Switzerland, and eleven brothers and sisters, most of whom reside in the East. Mrs. Fasola and Mrs. Totman, James Agadoni of Sunnyvale and Charles Agadoni of San Francisco are the brothers and sisters residing in this state.

Cowan, Margaret 321028 p1

Crash Kills One; Three Injured; Crooked Highway Is Again Cause of Fatality; The deviously winding West Side highway claimed at least one more victim Monday evening, when a driver not accustomed to the road hit the sharp curve just this side of Vernalis, where the road crosses from the east to the west side of the S. P. track, at too high speed and crashed against a five-foot embankment. Miss Margaret Cowan was instantly killed, suffering a broken neck. Lt. Alexander Martin Jr., driving the car, has fractured ribs with injury of lungs, as well as a fracture of the left knee. Mrs. Shorr is suffering from concussion and possible fracture of the skull. Mrs. Irene McCarthy, lacerations of the face and skull fracture.

Radio Artists in Party; The party was composed of three ladies, all connected with the NBC broadcasting circuit, Miss Cowan being San Francisco program manager, Miss McCarthy secretary to an executive of the company, and Mrs. Shorr the wife of Flori Shorr, pianist, and Lieut. Martin, a US naval engineer from the Mare Island yard. Mrs. Shorr's husband was making a concert appearance at Modesto and the party decided to surprise him by running down to the concert. Martin drove and they would have been all right except that they failed to see the left turning sign near Tracy and went straight ahead on the road that swings into the West Side highway. This led to the fatal turn at Vernalis. The injured persons were rushed to the Newman Hospital, and Miss Cowan's body taken to Patterson to the Davis & Evans parlors. Patients Doing Well; Latest reports on the progress of the three accident patients at the Newman Hospital is encouraging; all three believed out of danger. Lieut. Martin was to have been removed to the naval hospital at Vallejo yesterday afternoon, but after the arrival of the ambulance a consultation decided to delay the removal a day or two. Miss McCarthy, who is the most seriously injured, is doing as well as expected. Her case is definitely diagnosed as a skull fracture. Mrs. Shorr probably suffered no skull fracture, but a very bad concussion. Miss Ruth Cowan, Los Angeles radio executive, came up by private plane Wednesday, landing at Newman to visit the injured and arrange for the shipment of her sister's body, which was sent to Los Angeles Wednesday night.
