Gene Burkeen, 71; Former Patterson resident Gene Burkeen died Oct. 3 in Vacaville, it has been learned here. He was 71 and had been ill only a short time. Born in Rails, Texas, he moved here with his family and attended local schools. He left Patterson in 1945 while still a teenager and spent a career in the military, eventually logging over 10,000 hours in the air as a flight engineer. He moved to Vacaville in 1966. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed working around his home. A graveside service will be held Thursday at I p.m. at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery near Gustine. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Jodee Burkeen of Vacaville, a son, Frank Burkeen of San Jose, and two grandchildren. Robert Peter Butts, 88; A graveside service will be held today (Tuesday) for Robert Peter Butts, who died at his Grayson home last Thursday. He was 88. A native of Sycamore, Ill., he had lived in Grayson for 67 years. He retired after working for the San Joaquin Hay Growers Association. The service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Patterson District Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9 a.m. until noon at Hillview Funeral Chapel. Victoria Angelice Campbell, 2; Ariana Angelica Campbell-Duran, 3 A double funeral service will be held here Thursday for cousins Victoria Angelice Campbell, 2, and Ariana Angelica Campbell-Duran, 3, who died Friday at Memorial Hospital in Modesto. Victoria is survived by her parents, Carolyn Campbell and Frank Winne, both of Patterson; her grandparents, Delores Campbell of Patterson and Ernest Campbell of Seattle, Wash., Lois Winne of Patterson and Walter Winne of Livermore; and her great-grandmother, Betty Canalin of Alameda. Ariana is survived by her parents, Anthony and Catherine Duran of Patterson; her grandparents, Delores Campbell of Patterson and Ernest Campbell of Seattle, Wash., and Steve and Yolanda Duran of Patterson; and her great-grandmother, Belly Canalin of Alameda. Visitation for Victoria and Ariana is from 5 to 7 pm tomorrow (Wednesday) with a vigil service at 7 pm at Hillview Funeral Chapel in Patterson. The graves side service is Thursday at I0 a.m. at Patterson District Cemetery. Gilbert D. Cepeda, 57; Final rites were held here last Friday for longtime Patterson resident Gilbert D. Cepeda. He died July 3 at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock. He was 57. A native of Alton, Texas, he had lived here the past 40 years, working in agriculture. He was a member of sacred Vehicles crash: Two vehicles collided last Wednesday at the intersection of F and South Ninth streets. Robin Vanderbilt, 501 D St., was making a left turn onto F when her vehicle was stuck by one driven by James Fuson, 544 Clover. Fuson was northbound on Ninth Street. The Vanderbilt car then continued on and struck a stop sign. Heart Catholic Church, where Mass was held last Friday morning. A rosary was recited at the church the previous evening. Survivors include a son, Gilbert El Cepeda Jr. of Patterson; three daughters, Chrissy Tovar of Patterson, Cora Naranjo of Delhi and Cindy Cepeda of Newman; eight grandchildren; his mother, Petra Zepeda of Patterson; five brothers, Epifanio Zepeda Jr. of Texas, Eddie Zepeda of Turlock, and Humberto, Rogelio and Ramiro Zepeda, all of Patterson; and four sisters, Hermelinda Segoviano of Newman, Audelia Barrera of Patterson, and Olga Aparico and Nancy Cantu, both of Texas.

Gerald Lee Christensen, 60; A graveside service will be held today, Tuesday, in Newman for former Patterson resident Gerald Lee Christensen. He died last Tuesday at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. He was 60. A native of Ogden, Utah, he lived in Patterson for two years before moving to Newman three years ago. He worked as a brick tender for some 30 years, his last employment being with Jay Lynch, Inc. He attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Crows Landing, and was a member of Union Local 802 of El Monte. The service will be held at 10 am Tuesday, at Hills Ferry Cemetery. Hillview Funeral Chapel in Newman is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include his companion, Beverly Christensen of Newman; four sons, Gerald L Christensen Jr. of Newman, Richard of Cottonwood, Troy of Layton, Utah, and Trent Christensen of Yorba Linda; a stepson, Mel Northway of Patterson; three step-daughters, Theresa Hutchins of Modesto, Cindy Goodale of Flint, Mich., and Brenda Reed of Texas; eight grandchildren; a brother, Bill Christensen of Kingman, Ariz.; a step-brother, Albert Huit of Connecticut; and a sister, Janice Christensen of Provo, Utah.

Roger Laverne Cole; A funeral service will be held here Friday for an Arnold businessman who died Tuesday of injuries received in a two vehicle crash on Highway 4 near the Woodward Reservoir. See accident story elsewhere in his issue. Roger Laverne Cole, 63, died at the Memorial Medical Center m Modesto where he was transported by medical helicopter. He lived in Dorington and with his wife owned the Hungry Prospector Restaurant in Arnold. He was a native of Bertrind, Nebr. and had lived in Dorington the past 15 years. He had worked for Patterson Frozen Foods for 22 years and for Warehauser Corp. for six years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Arnold The Friday service will be held at 10 a.m.. at Hillview Funeral Chapel. Burial in Patterson District Cemetery will follow. Survivors include his wife, Delila Cole of Dodngton; two sons, Mark of Turlock and Scott Cole of Crows Landing; a daughter, Connie Garcia of Delhi; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild; his mother, Mable Cole of Saratoga; and a brother, Earl Cole of Watsonville. Harold D. Correia 86; Final rites were held here Saturday for longtime Crows Landing farmer Harold D. Correia. He died last Wednesday at his Crows Landing home. He was 86. He was a native and lifelong resident of Crows Landing, and was a self-employed farmer for 66 years. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church here and was a member of the Turlock Golf and Country Club for over 50 years. A Mass was held here at the church. Burial was in Hills Ferry Cemetery, Newman. Hillview Funeral Chapel in Newman was in charge of the arrangements Survivors include a son, Rick Correia of Stockton, a daughter, Jane Bretton of San Diego, and three grandchildren. Serafino Silveira Correia, 82; Final rites will be held today Tuesday for Serafino Silveira Correia, 82, who died Thursday at Wilshire Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Los Banos. He was a native of Fial, Azores, and had lived in Los Banos for 37 years. Before retirement he worked as a maintenance supervisor for the city of Los Banos for 10 years. He was a member of U.P.E.C., I.D.E.S., and the Our Lady of Fatima Society, all in Los Banos. A Mass will be held today at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Patterson. Burial in Patterson District Cemetery will follow. Survivors include a son, Joe Correia of Ceres, two grandchildren, and his caregiver, Tony Moniz of Los Banos.

Birdie Criswell, 92; A graveside service will be held Thursday for Birdie Criswell, a 63 year Grayson resident who died Friday at his home. He was 92. A native of Shannon, Ark., he was retired after working many years for Deldon Farms. The service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Patterson District Cemetery. No visitation is planned. Hillview Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Bertha Criswell of Grayson; two sons, William of West P1ains, Mo. and Norman Criswell of Yarington, Nev.; two daughters, Ida Quirky of Grayson and Ines Hendrix of Ceres; and 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchild. and 21 great-great-grandchildren.

Francisca Tones Cuellar, 74; A Mass will be celebrated here today, Tuesday, for long time Patterson resident Francisca Torres Cuellar. She died Friday at Memorial Medical center in Modesto. She was 74. A native of Brownsville, Texas, she moved here 34 years ago with her family. She was employed as a cook at the Del Puerto Hotel for five years. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where the Mass will be held Tuesday at 10 am. Burial in Patterson District Cemetery will follow. Hillview Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include two sons, Eusebio "Sam" Cuellar Jr. of Patterson and Henry Cuellar of Modesto; three daughters, Carmen Lozano and Lidia Graces, both of Turlock, and Gloria M. Ortiz of Memphis, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Juan Torres of Brownsville and Larry Trevino of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a sister, Elidia Saulsberry of Houma, La. Ruby Emily A. Cummings, 86; A graveside service was held here Monday noon at Patterson District Cemetery for former Patterson resident Ruby Emily Adeline Cummings. She died last Tuesday at her home in Keyes, where she had lived the past year. She was 86. A native of Paris, Texas, she had lived in Patterson for 24 years prior to moving to Keyes. She was a self-employed caregiver for 15 years. Survivors include two sons, Ronald of Manteca and James Cummings of Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters, Gay Nell Hughart of Reno, Nev., and Delores Hastings of Keyes; 24 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Cummings, and a daughter, Shirley Carlson. Hillview Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Frank DeAnda, 52; Former area resident Frank DeAnda has died in Texas at age 52. He died last Saturday in Pharr, Texas. He lived in Stanislaus County, including the Turlock and Grayson areas, from birth in 1947 until 1982 when he moved o Texas. He was employed by Varco Pruden in Turlock for 15 years and was a member of the Catholic Church. A graveside service will be held Friday at 11 am at Lakewood Memorial Park near Hughson. Survivors include two daughters, Mona DeAnda of Sacramento and Lisa DeAnda Castillo of Sacramento; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Ed of Ceres and Ralph DeAnda of Pharr; and five sisters, Gloria Jimenez of Grayson, Margaret DeAnda of Patterson, and Linda DeAnda of Modesto. William James Del Nero Jr., 58; Services will be held later this week in Merced for former Crows Landing resident William (Bill) James Del Nero Jr. He died Saturday at Vencor Hospital in San Leandro following a long illness. He was 58. A native of Crows Landing, he served in the U.S. Army from 1964-67 and lived in the Atwater-Merced area since the I970s. He was a real estate broker and was very active in the community and the Italian Catholic Federation. A rosary will be recited Thursday at 7 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Merced, where a Mass will be celebrated Friday at I0 am. Burial will be private. Survivors include his wife, Nettle Del Nero; four sons, Bill, Chris, Michael and Arron, all of the Merced-Atwater area; four stepchildren and 10 step-grandchildren; two brothers, Alan of Waterford and Gary Del Nero of Ceres; and a sister, Arlene DeOliveira of Patterson.

Israel Z. DeLeon, 48; Final rites were held here Friday for former Patterson resident Israel 7. DeLeon. He died Nov. 23 at his home in Salinas. He was a native of McAllen, Texas, but grew up here. He lived in Patterson for 40 years before moving to Salinas three years ago. He worked in agriculture all of his adult life. A Mass was celebrated Friday morning at Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he was a member. Burial was in Patterson District Cemetery. Survivors include his care-giver, Maria M. Maldonado of Modesto; son Israel Zepeda DeLeon Jr. and daughter Anita DeLeon Garcia, both of Modesto; three grandchildren; six brothers, Arnulfo DeLeon, Joe Cantu, Alejandro Cantu and Jacinto Cantu, all of Turlock, Javier Cantu of Stockton, and Benny Cantu of Patterson; and two sisters, Sylvia Cantu and Angelita Rivas, both of Turlock.

He died Saturday at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. He was 74. A native of Pauls Valley, Okla., he had worked for 27 years as a pump operator for West Stanislaus Irrigation District. Visitation will be today (Tuesday) from 5-8 p.m. at Hillview Funeral Chapel. Survivors include his wife. Elsie Dennis of Grayson; four sons, Leroy Dennis of Virginia Beach, Va., Gene Slaton of Grayson, Johnny Wilson of Ceres, and Chester Garey of Arizona; three daughters, Gloria Harp of Patterson, Bonnie Wilson of Ceres, and Erma Dene Wilkeson of Florida; 23 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Tilbert and Sam Dennis of Patterson and M.C. and Clinton Dennis of Modesto; and five sisters, Ruth Stephens of Tulare, Letress Perkins of Oklahoma, Quanda Murray and Sue Mundy of Modesto, and Janice Nunold of Turlock.

Dale Stewart Dodd, 59; A service will be held here Thursday for Pattersonite Dale Stewart Dodd, who was stricken late last week and died Saturday at the Redding Medical Center in Redding. He was 59. A native of Bolivar, Mo., he was a truck driver for Ed Rocha trucking for over 35 years. He had lived in Patterson the past 30 years and enjoyed team roping and being a cowboy. A service will be held Thursday at 10 am at Hillview Funeral Chapel. Burial in Patterson District Cemetery will follow. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the chapel. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Dodd of Patterson; children Kathy Herger and Tony Dodd, both of Patterson; five grandchildren; two brothers, Charles of Fresno and Derral Dodd of Clovis, N.M.; and seven sisters, Nadine Freitas of Fresno, Willa Mae James of Cambria, Jaunita Wheeler of Fresno, Barbara Goodman of Fairfield, Billie Blazina of Orangevale, Glenda Neilsen of North Fox, and Joyce Gunland of Fresno.
