Josefina R. Duran, 68; Final rites were held here Monday for Josefina R. Duran who died last Tuesday at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. She was 68. She was a native of Mexico and had lived in Patterson for many years. She worked as a self-employed caregiver for some 30 years. She also attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church here. A vigil service was held Sunday even big at Hillview Funeral Chapel, and a Mass was celebrated Monday morning at Sacred Heart. Burial was in Patterson District Cemetery. Survivors include a brother, Edward Duran of Bakersfield. Remembrances should he made to St. Vincent de Paul, c/o Sacred Heart Church. 529 I St. Patterson

Dykzeul Adrianus P 000201 p10
Adrianus ‘Art P. Dykzeul, 69; Final rites will be held here today, Tuesday, for Adrianus Petrus Dykzeul, known to his many friends as "Art" He died last Friday at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. He was 69. The well-known dairy farmer was a native of Spaarnwoude, Holland, and had lived in this area for over 50 years, operating a large dairy on Grayson Road. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus here, and had long been active in a number of organizations. He was a past president of the Stanislaus County DHIA, a past director of the Milk Advisory Board, and a past school board member of St. Stanislaus Catholic School and the Paradise School. He also was a member of the Sierra Club and the Lower San Joaquin River Association and served as a volunteer fireman. One of his enjoyments was giving tours of his dairy operation to school youngsters from throughout the area, many of whom had never visited a farm. A Mass will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, with burial in Patterson District Cemetery to follow. Visitation and a vigil were held Monday evening at the church. Hillview Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include his wife, Ann Dykzeul of Modesto; two sons, John and Vince Dykzeul, both of Modesto; two daughters, Julie Dykzeul of Modesto and Adriana Dykzeul of Fresno; a brother, Ted Dykzeul of Oakdale; and nine sisters, Christina Zwart of Hillegom, Netherlands; Alida Vink and Aty Coleman of Oakdale, Ria Stokman, Truus Van Nes, and Thea Straathof, all of Modesto, Ann Van Ruiten and Coby Rice of Lodi, and Ludy Damrell of Sacramento. Phyllis E. Ellery, 83; Phyllis E. Ellery, a 64 year resident of the Westley area and well known on the West Side, died Saturday at Valley Comfort Convalescent Hospital in Modesto. She was 83. Born in San Diego County, she was well known and active in the community. The homemaker was a past president of the Del Puerto Hospital Auxiliary and was a life member of California Women for Agriculture. She had also been a member of Children's Home Society and the Rising Sun School Mother's Club. A private family burial at Patterson District Cemetery is planned for Wednesday. A gathering at the home of her son, Henry Ellery of Westley, is scheduled Wednesday from 11:30 am. to 1:30p.m. Hillview Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include her son Henry, daughter, Margaret Alves of Sacramento, four grandchildren, and a brother, Steven Davies of Vista. Remembrances should be sent to the Steven Ellery 4-H Memorial Fund, or the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Paul E. Ellzey, 37; The son of a former Patterson woman has died in San Jose. Paul B. ElIzey, 37, died in his sleep Aug. 1. A native of Oak Harbor, Wash., he worked in the telecommunications and computer technology field. He was a member, of the First Baptist Church in San Jose where a service was held Aug. 9. Survivors include his wife, Lauri EIlzey of San Jose; his mother, Mary Ann Wheeland EIlzey of San Jose and formerly of Patterson; two brothers, Michael of San Jose and Steve Ellzey of Pacific Grove; two sisters, Sharon Hansen of Patterson and Judi EIlzey of San Jose; and numerous nieces and. nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Cmdr. Jack B. ElIzey.

Donald Lea Emmons, 73; A graveside service will be held here Friday for longtime Patterson resident Donald Lea Emmons. He died Saturday at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto after being in declining health. He was 73. A native of Gibbs, Mo., he had lived in Patterson for 56 years, 45 of those working as a truck driver for Kings County Trucking. He and his wife Betty also owned and operated D & B Communications, a local answering service, for 17 years. A graveside service will be held Friday at 10 am at Patterson District Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Hillview Funeral Chapel in Patterson. Survivors include his wife, Betty Emmons of Patterson; three sons, Harold Lea and Howard Gene Emmons, both of Patterson, and David Lynn Emmons of Fallon, Nev.; a daughter, Donna Beffa of Modesto; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and four sisters, lva Snyder of Missouri, Eileen Reger of Salinas, Mary Dias of Patterson, and Geneva Perez of Salem, Ore. Farley Thomas E 001107 p3
Thomas Edward Farley, 90; Thomas Edward Farley, a Patterson resident for many years and a member of a prominent up-state New York family, died Oct. 31. He was 90. He was receiving care in Newman the past several months after moving from Patterson, and died at Franciscan Health Care Convalescent Hospital in Merced, where he had been a patient for several weeks. He was a native of Cene, New York, and had lived in Patterson for over 35 years before moving to Newman. He first worked here for John Nunes Jr., then for Larry Buehner. He was proud of his Irish heritage. James A. Farley, a brother of his grandfather, served as postmaster general of the United States in the mid-1930s under President Roosevelt. He also served as national chairman of the Democratic Party and as Roosevelt's campaign chairman in 1932 and 1936. Thomas Farley's family at one time owned a mortuary, greenhouses and several floral shops in the Lake Placid area of New York. His sisters for many years continued to operate the shops where he had learned the floral and nursery business. He worked in the floral and mortuary businesses here in California before moving to the Patterson area. He also continued to work here as a self-employed nurseryman, specializing in the making of wreaths. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church. One of his many stories, recalls local businessman Domingo's Farinha, was about the huge Christmas wreathes his family in New York made for Rockefeller Center. They were so large that apples were used for the berries. At one time be brought back from a trip to the East Coast several plates of a set from which Roosevelt ate when he visited the Farley family. These he gave to various local residents. A vigil service was held Monday evening at Hillview Funeral Chapel in Patterson.

Maria Conceicao Fernandes, 79; A Mass was held Monday morning in Newman for Maria Conceicao Fernandes, 79 She died last Wednesday at Mercy Hospital in Merced. She was a native of Sao Manteus, Terceira, Azores, and had lived in Newman the past 12 years She was a homemaker and attended St. Joachim's Catholic Church in that city. A Mass was held at the church, and burial was in Hills Ferry Cemetery. Hillview Funeral Chapel in Newman handled the arrangements. Survivors include two sons, Manuel Garcia of Patterson and Ildo Garcia of Terceira, Azores, three daughters. Maria do Natal Fernandes of Terceira, Azores and Fatima Areias and Alice Areias, both of Newman: and 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Audrey Field, 87; Services will be held here Friday for longtime Patterson resident Audrey Field. She died Monday at English Oaks Convalescent Hospital in Modesto. She was 87. A native of Colorado, the daughter of immigrants from England, she was a homemaker who had lived in Patterson for 39 years. She also was a member of the Patterson Eastern Star chapter and enjoyed gardening and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She and her late husband Hubert Field moved here in 1961 when he helped open an office for the state Department of Water Resources, which administered the construction of the California Aqueduct in this area. Prior to that they lived in the East when he worked on the St. Lawrence Seaway project. A service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Hillview Funeral Chapel. Burial in Patterson District Cemetery will follow. Visitation at the chapel will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m. Survivors include a son, James Field of Rocklin; two daughters, Diane McKinley of Mission Viejo and Carol Meinger of Modesto; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death in 1967. Remembrances should be sent to the American Heart Association, P0 Box 4933. Modesto, Calif. 95352-4933.

Clinton Fields, 76; Clinton Fields of Fairfield will be buried Friday with military honors. He died Tuesday at David Grant Medical Center following a long illness. He was 76. A native of Harlan, Kentucky, he was a loadmaster for the U.S. Air Force for 26 years before retiring in 1966. He was a member of the Oakland Scottish Rite, the Loyal Order of Moose in Fairfield, and the Retired Enlisted Association. While in the military he advanced to the rank of staff sergeant and served during both World War 11 and the Korean War. A service will be held Friday at 11 am, at the Fairfield Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Suisun Fairfield Cemetery. Survivors include his longtime partner, Betty Munk of Fairfield; a son, Richard Fields of Vacaville; four grandchildren; his mother, Lula Fields of Lexington, Ky., and two sisters, Geneva Hall of Kingsport, Tenn., and Zora Arredondo of Crows Landing. Remembrances should be sent to North Bay Hospice, 1300 Oliver Rd., Fairfield.

Eva Lena Fields, 79; Eva Lena Fields of Patterson died Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. She was 79. Visitation is tonight (Thursday) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hillview Funeral Chapel in Patterson. A funeral service is scheduled for tomorrow (Friday) at 10 a.m. at the chapel. Burial will follow at Patterson District Cemetery. She was a native of Mulberry, Ark., and lived in Patterson for 41 years. She was a homemaker, and she attended Assembly of God church. She is survived by her children, Wayne Fields of Fort Bragg, Marilyn Nally of Oklahoma, Mae Carlson and Carolyn Peterson of Patterson; her brothers, Floyd Inman of Oklahoma and Bob Inman of Arkansas; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Anthony "Tony" Freitas, 73; Well known long-time Newman resident Anthony "Tony" Freitas died Monday at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock. He was 73. A native of Stevinson, he had lived in Newman for 50 years. He was a self- employed dairyman from 1947-63 and worked as a maintenance mechanic at Patterson Frozen Foods for 24 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he held the 4th degree and was a member of the color guard, and also belonged to the OLM Society. He attended St. Joachim's Catholic in Newman where a rosary service will be held tonight (Thursday) at 7 o'clock. A Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m., also at the church. Burial in Hills Ferry Cemetery will follow. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at St. Joachim's Survivors include his wife, Elsie Freitas of Newman; sons George of Ceres, Ray of Gustine, and Bob Freitas of Tulare; a daughter, Cindy Spinelli of Newman; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Arnold Freitas of Visalia; and three sisters, Mary Jantz of Coursegold, Velma Borba of Patterson, and Alex Varga of Vancouver, Wash. Demetrio R. Garcia, 75; Final rites will be held here Thursday for former Patterson resident Demetrio R. Garcia. He died last Thursday at his residence in Modesto. He was 75. A native of Cinton, Texas, he had lived in the Modesto- Patterson area the past 35 years. He was employed in agriculture and was a member of St Jude's Catholic Church in Ceres. He also organized and played in his own band for many years. A vigil service will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church here. A Mass is scheduled at the church for 10 am Thursday, with burial in Patterson District Cemetery to follow. Visitation will precede the vigil from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday. Hillview Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include his wife, Demetria Garcia of Modesto; a son, Demetrio Garcia II of Modesto; six daughters, Ramona Ochoa. Beverly Gill, 75; A former Pattersonite has died in Fallbrook. Beverly. Jane Gill, 75, died June 25. She was a native of Fresno and a graduate of Patterson High School in the class of 1943. She was a homemaker and had lived in Fallbrook the past 22 years. She was a past member of Encore of Fallbrook. A graveside service was held June 30 at Riverside National Cemetery. Survivors include a son, John S. Gill of Los Angeles; a daughter, Lauri Bennett of Ontario; two grandchildren; and a sister, Marjorie Allen of Patterson. She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Gill, in 1986.

Gary R. Gingras, 44; A graveside service was held Friday at Patterson District Cemetery for Gary R. Gingras of Modesto. He died July 23 at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock. He was 44. A native of Alameda, he had lived in Modesto the past four years, last working at Stiles Custom Metals as an industrial painter. He was an avid fisherman, camper and target shooter, and was a member of the NRA. Survivors include of Pleasanton and Sandi Donohoe of Hayward. Manuel V. Goulart, 47; A native of the Azores who had lived here the past eight years died Wednesday at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. Manuel V. Goulart died at age 47. He was a native of Pico and had worked for Express Drywall as a taper for eight years. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a member of F.D.E.S. A vigil service was held Monday evening at Sacred Heart Church where a Mass will be held today (Tuesday) at 10 am. Burial in Patterson District Cemetery will follow.
