Munoz David L 011113 p9

Man Killed Walking on Freeway; A 29 year old Woodland man was killed early Friday morning when struck by a vehicle as he was walking down the middle of the northbound lanes of 1-5. It is thought that David Lopez Munoz was killed instantly when struck by an auto driven by Billy Ashlock, 21, of Patterson. Ashlock told officers he was driving about 70 mph when his 2000 Ford Focus struck Munoz, sending the body crashing into the driver s side windshield of the vehicle. The Ford then went out of control down an embankment and crashed through a barbed wire fence before corning to rest in an open field. Ashlock, who suffered minor injuries and was treated at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock, then drove his auto back to the embankment and witnessed: several large truck rigs strike the body in the roadway. The drivers of the rigs, possibly not realizing they bad struck something, continued on without stopping, according to the accident report. A vehicle was then found parked on the west side of the southbound lanes south of Ingram Creek. It is theorized that Munoz had left the vehicle, but it is unknown why he was walking in the middle of the northbound freeway lanes. The accident occurred shortly before 3:30 a.m. Friday.
