California Missions

There is a great deal of information on the California Missions, [Wiki] their history, and the Franciscan Friars who saw to their construction and use in early California. It is not the intention of this site to re-invent a history or even to try to embellish on it. Rather it will be a site that will try to provide Genealogical information from the Mission Era.

Many of them are connected to the Mission and have old wood markers that have no visible markings on them. Thus it is difficult to identify any of the inhabitants - Sometimes rubbing a wood marker will result in legibility, but oftimes not.
Ordering Mission Records

Mission Vital Records have to be ordered through the particular Diocese in which the Mission is located.

California Presidio's

The Presidio's were created and built by the Spanish Government to protect the Missions.
There are five of them:
El Presidio Real de San Diego ~ El Presidio Real de San Carlos de Monterey ~ El Presidio Real de San Francisco ~ El Presidio Real de Santa Barbara & El Presidio de Sonoma

Finally...

This Website about California Missions would not be complete without a biography of Fr Junípero Serra

The Spanish Franciscan Missionary

There are old News Articles about the Missions, the Indians and the trials and tribulations of the California Mission Era.
I am happy to do lookups on Genealogy Bank.
