Some Hints for Writing Queries:
  • CAPITALIZE all SURNAMES.  (Notice how that caught your eye??)
  • Provide given names, and at least approximate time frames to indicate when your ancestor was thought to have been in Del Norte County, CA
  • Avoid general "looking for info on any Jones families" unless you're doing a one-name study. Most researchers won't answer this type of query.
  • Providing maiden names for wives is an excellent idea, but otherwise, it's usually preferable to write separate queries for seperate surnames.  Too much information in one query can confuse people and make them less likely to respond.
  • Use standard abbreviations when possible (b.=birth, d.=death, etc.)
