CAKERN-L

Kern County, California RootsWeb Genealogy Maillist

My name is Edward A. Black, Sr. and I established the CAKERN-L maillist for those who desire to contact others who have like desires in locating family members, taking part in discussions or doing other genealogical research in Kern County, California.

My interest in Kern County, CA comes because I live in the Antelope Valley, just outside Kern County and I have a strong love for genealogy.

I've had an interest in genealogy since I was a child [although I referred to it as finding my roots]. My wife & I have long found enjoyment in helping others, in my case doing what I can to help in family history.

I have found that the lists I've taken part in have helped a lot in locating family members on either my own or that of my wife's family.

Enjoy this new site and I do hope that it will assist you users with your genealogical work & discussions. It is intended to be a tool for that purpose.

The CAKERN is intended as a forum for genealogical discussion & research - the searching for one ancestors and kinfolk. I recognize that that will include some history of the area, something of the local businesses as relate to occupations of the people that lived in the area. It is intended to focus on Kern County, although some overlap with neighboring counties (ie: Inyo, Kings, Los Angeles, Tulare, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, San Bernardino & Ventura Counties). I have found through the other lists that in looking for one's kinfolk in an area, it opens ways to continued search, as the subscribers share their experiences and knowledge in helping others in their searches. That has helped me personally locate my kinfolk back to the early 1700s and those of my wife along 3 lines back to the 1600s.

I started this list because of my interest in the area. It is new, so people are generally not aware of it yet, but I expect that it will become a useful tool in research as people find that it is there. I've already received messages thanking me for taking on the challange, so I know it is worth while.

Thanks again,

Sincerely,
Edward A. Black Sr. [listowner]
