Mary Ella Kyburz Obituary Submitted by: Jeni Lacey |
Albert Burrows Kyburz, 84 last surviving child of the late Samuel and Rebecca
Barber Kyburz, pioneers in California before the discovery of gold at Coloma,
died on Monday evening. The funeral services were held on Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock from Memory Chapel under the auspices of Placerville Parlor No. 9, Native Sons of the Golden West. Rev. Harold G. Morehouse conducted the rites at the chapel. Placerville Parlor, No. 9, N. S. G. G. had charge of graveside services. Mrs. Lena Rantz sang favorite songs of the desceased. Mr. Kyburz had been active until a short time before his last illness. Born at Sacramento on June 30, 1852, he often related that his birthplace was on the site now occupied by the Vienna Restaurant on Kay Street, between Ninth and Tenth Streets in the Capital City. He remembered, as a child, attending the ceremonies for the laying of the cornerstone of the state capitol and played upon the foundations as the building was built. His memory was filled with stories of events of early times, some of which he told on the many occasions when he, with other pioneers of this county and Northern California were guests at special occasions, some of them arranged by Sacramento groups, and at the annual reunion of pioneers in Placerville, conducted by Placerville Parlor No. 9, N. S. G. W. and Marguerite Parlor No. 12, N. D. G. W. Samuel Kyburz and his family, following a sever flood in Sacramento in 1852, removed to San Francisco to reside and from there removed to Clarksville, in this county, to become established in the dairying and stock raising business. With the father were associated Albert and his brothers San and Samuel, who carried on in the business after their father's retirement. About 1902 A. B. Kyburz purchased the present Kyburz resort, on the Lincoln highway 32 miles east of Placerville, which he subsequently sold to his son, Ralph Kyburz and in 1917, A. B. Kyburz purchased Riverton resort, which he operated for a few seasons and then sold to the present owner and retired from active business. Mr. Kyburz's wife, Mrs. Mary Ella Kyburz, whom he married in 1874, preceded him in death. Mr. Kyburz is survived by one son and three daughters, Mrs. Matt Blair, Jr., Ralph Kyburz, and Mrs. M. T. Kelly, all of this city, and Mrs. Stanley Arnot of Sloan, Nevada. Eight grandchildren also survive. They are Jean Arnot, Mrs. Grant S. Johnson, Marshall Kelly, Gordon Blair, Louise Blair, Mary Blair, Albert Kyburz and Mrs. Ralpha Sellers. In addition, there are two surviving great-grandchildre, Sonya Sellers and Samuel Kyburz. Reb. A. A. Kyburz, Samuel Augustus Kyburz, George Kyburz and Mrs. W. D. Barton, are nephews and niece of the deceased. |
