Dr. Hugh Frederick Dormody, a native of Placerville, and cofounder of the Monterey hospital, died Sunday at the University of California hospital in San Francisco.
A one-time mayor of Monterey, Dr. Dormody was born in Martell Ravine, Placerville to the late Nellie Bosworth Dormody and Leonard J. Dormody. He received his early education here and graduated from the local high school.
He was a member or past officer of a long list of professional organizations, matched by an even longer list of accomplishments in municipal affairs and leadership in service organizations, notably the Rotary International.
His death came as the result of a lengthy operation which was intended to correct internal complications resulting from an auto accident several years ago.
Survivors include his widow, Florence; two sons, Hugh F. of Los Angeles and Richard J. Dormody of Carmel; a sister, Mrs. Helen Dormody Crystal of Placerville; and a brother, Dr. Horace Dormody of Carmel.
