On Tuesday night, at 11:30 o'clock, Stephen James Richards passed away at
his residence in this city. A sufferer from miner's consumption, he went to Arizona last July hoping to be benefited by the change of climate. Not obtaining any relief he returned last November, since which time he had hardly left his residence. He was born in Wisconsin, January 71 (sic), 1856, and when a small boy came to Placerville where the most of his life was spent. In 1877 he was married to Jennie McKinney (sic) who survives him. There are also four sons, Lawrence, of Arizona, and James, Leonard, and Fred of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Richards, the parents of the deceased are also living and residents of Placerville. There are three sisters of Mr. Richards living--Mrs. Eustace of Gilroy, and Mrs. Waymouth and Mrs. S. Alderson of this city. The deceased was a member of Morning Star Lodge, No. 30., I.O.O.F. The funeral will take place Snday afternoon, at 2 o'clock p.m., April 21, 1901, from the family residence near the depot. |
