MOORE'S STATION

If you have information about the following, please click on the contact name below.

Looking for information on the Moore's Station owned by Mary Moore in 1864 at Riverton. Want to learn about the Pony Express stop there and the toll road from Sacramento to Virginia City which is now part of highway 50. Any help would be much appreciated.

Response from Walter Castor

Taken form notes in the Schellens Collection page 422.

The place was long known as MOORE'S STATION because it was on the toll road between Sacramento & Virgina City, built and operated by John M. Moore. When a P.O. was established about 1895, Tiverton was chosen to avoid confussion with Moore's Station - Butte County and because of its location on the American River.
