| Looking form information on John Gilkison. He is listed in the 1850 Federal California Census as being a miner in the township of Placerville in El Dorado County. Would this make him a fortyniner? Family tradition has it that he made enough gold to come back to Wabash County Illinois and open a blacksmith shop. I think it it interesting in the census list that only two lines down from him is listed a blacksmith. I can't help but wonder if he learned blacksmithing in the gold fields. Any information would be appreciated. Will share any information on the John Gilkison family. Thank you for any help you can give me with this. | |
