Inyo County Communities

Past and Present – Maps, Photos and History

Also see our historic maps of Inyo County page.

The Inyo County Planning Department reports that Bishop is the only incorporated city in all of Inyo County.  Bishop was incorporated in 1903.

There are 19 other communities in the county where they track a populace.  Including Bishop, this makes a total of 20 communities.

The population of the entire county in 1995 was cited as 18,435.  In 1930 it was only 6,555.

Due to its rich mining history Inyo County sports more than its share of ghost towns.

Many of them you will find mentioned on the Cemeteries Page.
