Betty W. Strachan 1930-2004 Private family services will beheld for former Bishop area resident Betty W. Strachan. Betty, 74, of Bozeman, Mont., died Oct. 29, 2004. She was born April 3, 1930 in San Bernardino to Irl Hicks and Ann (Meyers) Watts. Betty was raised in California and met her future husband Gordon Strachan, and graduated from University of Colorado with a Bachelor's degree in Education. Betty and Gordon were married on August 27, 1950 in San Bernardino. They raised two boys, Gordon II and Irl. Betty spent 30 years educating children, mainly in the Bishop area. After retirement, Betty and her family moved to Montana. She spent many hours as a docent with the Museum of the Rockies and continued to spread her vast knowledge of the Native American culture and fur trading industry to children in many Montana schools and through programs with the museum. She was a member of the Bridger Mountain men and enjoyed competitive black powder shooting. She enjoyed water and show skiing, hunting, fishing and horses. She was preceded in death by her sister, Loretta, and son, Irl. Betty is survived by her husband, Gordon; son and daughter-in-law, Gordon Strachan II and Debbie Strachan; grandson, Gordon Strachan III and his family Laura, Sophia and Carl, all of Bozeman; and grandsons, Irl Strachan II and Ian Strachan.
