Charles Edward Renfro Memorial services will be held for Charles "Chuck" Edward Renfro, 68, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at the Valley Presbyterian Church, 2912 W. Line St. in Bishop. A Celebration of Life dinner for family and friends will immediately follow at the Bishop Tribal Elders Building on Diaz Lane in Bishop. Chuck was born on May 5, 1934, at his grandparents', Perry and Rachel Fine's, farmhouse in Taylor County, Iowa, to Ruby and Joseph Renfro. In later years, and with $30 in his pocket from his mother's egg money, Chuck hitch-hiked his way to California. Upon advanced schooling to become a surveyor, the government employed Chuck at a job that brought him to Bishop in the late 1950s, where he did surveying on the Bishop Indian Reservation. After the birth of his son, Dale Eugene Renfro, Chuck moved his family to Wellington, NV changing careers to own and operate the Hey Day Inn. He then went back to surveying and spent time in the Reno and Las Vegas areas, finally settling in the Southern California area where his daughter, Cinnamon Renfro, was born. He joined the operating engineers union Local No. 12 and later started a weekend business, owning and operating heavy equipment. He retired from the union in the early 1980's and moved back to South Carolina where he owned and operated a marina that included a campground/convenience store. He moved back to Bishop in 1990. Chuck loved life and lived life to its fullest. All his family and friends will miss his love and humor. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and his grandson, Dale Renfro, Jr. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Berdina Renfro; grandchildren Eric, Annette and Cheyenne, all resident of Bishop; daughter, Cinnamon Page Johnston and grandchildren, Jagger and Lyndsay, residents of Los Alamitos; brothers and sisters-in-law Darryl and Doris Renfro, and numerous nieces and nephews.
