David King Ives 1958-2004 Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (201 South A Street, Hawthorne, Nev.) for David King Ives. David, beloved son, husband, father and grandfather, was born March 21, 1958 in Bishop. He died Sept. 27, 2004 in Las Vegas, Nev. from a tragic motorcycle accident at the age of 46. Soon after David was born, his family moved to Pleasant Hill where he lived until he was 19 years old. After graduating College Park High School, David moved to Big Pine and worked in the Perlite mines for a few years before moving to Mina, Nev., where he worked for the Caldera Mines for two years. He was then hired on at the Nevada Department of Transportation, where he worked as a supervisor for more than 15 years. David was a resident of Hawthorne for more than five years. David had a deep passion and love for life and above all a devotion to his wife, whom he married on June 22, 2002, and family. He was a very special friend to all who knew him and will be remembered as having a heart of gold and being a passionate, kind, loving family man. His other passions were for mining in the hills above Birch Creek. He also loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed camping at his favorite spots on Fallen Leaf Lake, Saline Valley, and backpacking in the Sierra. "Words cannot express the deep loss and pain that we all feel for losing our beloved David," family said. "Our hearts are broken to have lost him so soon, but we celebrate the precious gift of life that we were given. May God give him strength, peace and everlasting love in heaven above." David is survived by his parents, King and Donna Ives of Big Pine; wife, Ruby Ives of Hawthorne, Nev.; son, David King Ives, Jr.; stepchildren, Royce, Rance and RaNon of Carson City, Nev.; sisters, Laura Cook of Manteca and Susan Hoyles of Pleasant Hill; brother Daniel Lee Ives of La Honda; nieces, Susan Cook and Heather and Kayla Hoyles; and nephew, Brian Cook. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to a memorial trust fund that has been arranged in the name of David Ives at Washington Mutual in Bishop to benefit his wife Ruby and their children.
