Final Rites Held For Don Smith, 75 Final rites for Donald P. Smith, 75, a resident of Bishop for 16 years, were held Dec. 26 at Evans Brown Mortuary in Perris. Interment was in Perris Valley Cemetery. Mr. Smith died of a heart attack Dec. 22 while vacationing near Needles. The Smiths, who have been making their home at 29010 Prestwick Road, Sun City, (Phone 679-2653) visited friends in Bishop in recent months, while on a 14,000 mile nation-wide tour. During the years he made Bishop his headquarters, he was active in raising and training golden retrievers. He was instrumental in getting a major retriever field trial held in Bishop area. At one time he was head of sales of the old Cord automobile in California. Mr. Smith served during the 1930s as vice president and general manager of the Vultee Aircraft Co. and president of Interstate Aircraft and Engineering Corp. He leaves his wife Mabel, Sun City; a son, Col. Don T. Smith, who heads the Air Force's airsea rescue operation in the South Pacific; two daughters, Mrs. Doris Koelsch, Beverly Hills, and Mrs. Carol Weisenburg, San Raphael, and two brothers, Calvin Smith, Los Angeles, and McKemy Smith, Phoenix; and 15 grandchildren.
