Funeral Services held Friday for Dora Shepherd Collins Funeral services were held at the Blake Funeral Chapel Friday, Feb. 26 for Dora Shepherd Collins who died at the Northern Inyo Hospital February 23. Conducting the services was the Rev. Howard Rosine of the First Methodist Church in Bishop. Mrs. Collins' parents John and Margaret Shepherd came to Inyo County in 1862 to make their home at George Creek. Dora was born on the Shepherd Ranch at George Creek, later called Manzanar February 21, 1874. Her birth records is the only one recorded in the records of Inyo County until 1914 since the army doctor from the Cavalry Post at Ft. Independence registered her birth. She married the late Charles Collins in 1905 when he was the sheriff of Inyo County. He held that office for 16 years and their home then was in Independence. It was at Bishop later. She was the last member of the Shepherd family. Four sisters, Nellie Shepherd, Euella Butler, May Conklin and Eva Lee Gunn and her three brothers, Lester, Arthur and Edward Shepherd preceded her in death. She is survived by three nieces Rena Conklin Hobbs, Helen Gunn Edwards, and Eloise Shepherd Short and one nephew John L. Shepherd who were all present for her funeral. Pall bearers at athe funeral were Wells Abbott, Mark Lacey, Judge Bill Green, Alex Krater, Arlie Brierly and Gus Cashbaugh. Honorary pallbearers were Harold Baxter, Arthur Barlow, Pete Mairs, and Frank Lawrence.
