Edward Baker Funeral services for lifetime Big Pine resident Edward Baker, 85, will be held on Thursday, Feb. 6, at the Brune and Buck Mortuary Chapel in Bishop at 11 a.m. A traditional cry dance will be held at his residence at "Indian Camp," 1000 Old Glacier Road, in Big Pine, Wednesday evening, Feb. 5, starting at 6:30 p.m. Mr. Baker was born on April 24, 1918 to John and Effie Baker. The family resided at what is still referred to as the old Indian Camp. After attending and leaving the old Indian School on Crocker Street, Edward joined the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran. Edward worked throughout the valley doing ranch work and irrigation work for several of the valley's ranchers. He also worked at the old sawmill and had various other jobs in and around Big Pine. Ed, as he was known to family and friends, would help out anyone who needed help. Edward was preceded in death by sisters, Emma Baker, Lois Torres and Sybil Baker and brother, Isaac Baker, all of Big Pine Edward is survived by Charlotte Bacoch and family of Big Pine; Robert Baker, Sr. and family, of Reno, NV; Janet Gutierrez and family, of Big Pine; the late Bertha Moose and family, of Big Pine; Dolores and Harold Miller, of Schurz, NV; the late Clifford Bowers and family, of Big Pine; and other relatives and friends. Veteran's memorial services will be conducted by American Legion Glacier Post No. 0457 and Cline Howard Post No. 4330 at the cemetery. Interment will follow the services at the Woodman Cemetery in Big Pine.
