Emilia Macias Ness Funeral services for lifetime Lone Pine resident Emilia Macias Ness, 78, will be held on Monday, Feb. 3, at the Owens Valley Mortuary Chapel at 206 E. Post St. in Lone Pine at 2 p.m. Rev. Father Francis Simeone of Santa Rosa Catholic Church of Lone Pine will officiate. Additionally, a visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 p.m., followed by a Rosary Service at the mortuary chapel at 4 p.m. Mrs. Ness was born April 26, 1924 in Los Angeles to Ramon Edward and Emilia Castelo Macias. The family moved to Lone Pine when Emilia was only a few months old. She attended Lone Pine schools and graduated from Lone Pine High School. During World War II, she worked at Sierra Talc Mine in the Darwin area. Later, she worked many years at Safeway as a meat cutter and grocery checker, and went tot work at Joseph's Market, also as a checker. She met and married Bert Anthony Ness during World War II. At one time they lived in Shoshone. She was a member of the Santa Rosa Catholic Church. Emilia loved gardening and claimed she could grow tomatoes in corn in Death Valley. She enjoyed staying close to home, rather than traveling and other activities. She was preceded in death by her husband Bert in 1984. Emilia is survived by her sister, Mary Carrasco; husband, "Swede" of Lone Pine, and several nieces and nephews. Interment will follow the service at the Mt. Whitney District Cemetery in Lone Pine. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Bert.
