Ethel Elizabeth Olivas Funeral services for Lone Pine native, Ethel Elizabeth Olivas, 87, will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, 11 a.m. at the Owens Valley Mortuary. Father Robert Jordan of the Trinity Episcopal Church will officiate. A visitation for friends and family will be held today, Friday, Feb. 17, 5 to 7 p.m. at the mortuary in Lone Pine. Mrs. Olivas was born in Lone Pine on Feb. 6, 1908 to Orin "Ollie" and Charlotte (Pettnetti) Dearborn. She was baptized in the Lone Pine Methodist Episcopal Church in July of 1910 and was a member of the Pythian Sisters for 71 years. She was a charter and life member of the Turner Barnes Veteran of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, #8036. She was also a member of the Southern Inyo Hospital Auxiliary, the Independence Garden Club, the Inyo Historical Society and the Southern Inyo Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons. Mrs. Olivas died Feb. 14 at her home in Lone Pine. Mrs. Olivas was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Olivas, in March of 1982. Survivors include her daughters, Margaret Terry and Charlotte Olson of Lone Pine; son, Ralph Ruiz of Lone Pine, granddaughters, Susan Mathieson and Jodi Olson; grandsons, Edward Ruiz and Henry Olson; great-grandchildren Kelly Checo, Logan Wilcox, and Joseph and Manuel Ruiz; "special" niece, Lora Race; and numerous nieces, nephews; cousins and sisters-in-law. Interment will be at the Mt. Whitney Cemetery in Lone Pine. Pallbearers will be William Carrasco, John Lacey, Arnold Osuna, Dwayne Rossi, Carl Ruiz, and Norman Starks. Donations in Mrs. Olivas' memory can be made to the Trinity Episcopal Church, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
