Eugene 'Gene' Perkins 1924-2004 Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug 21 at the Least Line Street Cemetery in Bishop for 24-year Bishop resident Eugene "Gene" Perkins, age 80. The Rev. Dr. Karen Moore, Winnedumah Lodge No. 287, Free and Accepted Masons and VFW Post No. 8988, will officiate. Born in Los Angeles on Jan. 5, 1924 to Eugene and Irene Perkins, Gene died Aug. 18, 2004 at his residence in Bishop. After finishing high school, Gene enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1943. He served in Italy as a bombardier and nose gunner for 50 missions over Germany. Gene married Barbara Sorensen in 1945 and then entered the banking business, continuing in that field in both Northern and Southern California until his retirement in 1989. Gene and his wife moved to Bishop in 1981, and Gene continued to work in various capacities in Bishop, including being elected city treasurer and serving from 1997-2003. Gene was a member of VFW Lodge No. 8988 of Bishop, Winnedumah Masonic Lodge No. 287 and the Kerak Shrine Club of Reno, Nev. He was preceeded in death by his son, Richard Perkins of Bishop, in 2001. Gene is survived by his wife, Barbara Perkins of Bishop; son and daughter-in- law, Patrick and Lisa Perkins of Bishop; daughter and son-in-law, B.J. and Bob Hayner of Lone Pine; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Perkins of Minden, Nev; three grandsons, Andrew, Jason and Alexander Perkins; three granddaughters, Heidi Hayner of Lone Pine, Pauline Ross of Santa Maria and Katherine Gray of Dayton, Nev.; two great-granddaughters; a brother of Whitehorn and a sister of Hollywood; and numerous nieces and nephews.
