Eugene Vasquez Valenzuela A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan 23 at the Summerset Memorial Chapel for former Big Pine resident Eugene Vasquez Valenzuela. Rev. Thomas P. Clements, VA Chaplain and Rev. Charlie Collins, minister of Denton Wesleyan Church will officiate. Burial will be held at the U.S. National Cemetery, Statesville Boulevard location, in Salisbury, N.C. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Rowan County Military Honor Guard. Visitation will be from noon-1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, at Summerset Funeral Home. Born July 12, 1925 in Tempe, Ariz., son of the late Matilde Vasquez and Fernando Valenzuela, Eugene died Sunday, Jan, 15, 2006 at the W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury. Eugene received his education in California schools. A veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War, he retired from the 4J Cattle Company in Big Pine. He attended the Denton Wesleyan Church. Eugene was preceded in death by his wife, Santos Muniz Valenzuela, on Sept. 30, 1983. He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Steven Valenzuela and Mary of Tonopah, and Paul Valenzuela and Diane of Glendale, Ariz.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra Russell and Jeff of Denton and Annie Stelle and Mark of Weaverville, Calif.; two brothers, Frank Valenzuela of Esparto, Calif. and Antonio Valenzuela of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters Theresa Rivera of Azusa and Anparo Pena of El Monte; 13 grandchildren, Jennifer Wall, Stuart Pena, Mark Steele, Genea Horner, Stephanie Solbos, Sandra Lopez, Sarah Crisco, Anna Russell, Deborah Russell, Lauren Valenzuela and Garret Valenzuela; and 11 great- grandchildren, Taylor Stelle, Izak Stelle, Toni Horner, Ryan Horner, Steve Horner, Alyssa Fisher, Grace Solbos, Ana Lopez, Nathan Wall, Jordan Wall and Cameron Wall.
