Francis Julius Hieb 1918-2004 Memorial services were held at Wiefels & Son Memorial Chapel on Sept. 9 for former Bishop resident Francis Julius Hieb. Hieb was born on March 15, 1918 in Quincy, Wash, and died at the Veterans Hospital in Loma Linda on Sept. 13, 2004. He was employed in the resort and management business. He and his wife Ruth owned and operated the Bristlecone Motel in Big Pine and the Village Motel in Bishop for many years. In 1945 he received an honorary discharge from the United States Navy. He attended college in Washington State for two years, and received a college scholarship in Liberal Arts at Olympia, Washington. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bishop. Francis is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth Ellen Hieb of Banning; daughters, Terry Frances Hieb of Colton and Peggy Anne Speaker of Carson City, Nev.; Daughters and sons-in-law, Susan Ellen and Paul Hunt of Walker and Janet Lynne and Gary Willis of Rosamond; son and daughter-in-law, Richard Samuel and Myra Hieb of Banning; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to a trust in the name of Francis Hieb at Washington Mutual Bank in Banning.
