Gilbert "GR" Roland Bethel 1946-2004 No funeral services will beheld for life-long Bishop resident Gilbert "GR" Bethel. Born in Bishop on Jan. 29, 1946, GR died at Northern Inyo hospital in Bishop on Nov. 30, 2004. He was 58. GR graduated from Bishop Union High School in 1964 and went on to Pierce College in Woodland Hills for one and a half years. He served in the United States Marine Corps form 1966-1968 and served one year in Vietnam. After discharge from the USMC he worked for a number of years in construction. Between jobs he enjoyed "cowboying" and rodeos. Later GR lived in Reno, Nev. where he joined the Operators Union and worked for various companies in Nevada. He also drove trucks hauling produce from California to Canada for Francis Mooney of Montana. He also lived in Texas driving cattle trucks. In later years he enjoyed the company of his faithful four-legged friend "Dude", also known as Beau. GR is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Anne Bethel of Madera; aunt, Velma Kelso; nephew, Chase Witman; cousins, Wayne and Genie Chiatovich, Lois Kennedy, Wanda Hodgekinson, Larry and Debbie Williams, Terry Bouch and Duane Chiatovich, all of Bishop, Merry and Don Cortez of Nevada and Winifred Williams; aunt, Viola Martinez of Los Angeles; Kimberly's mother, Anne Gravelle; and many other relatives.
