Gladys Marie Purves At her request, no services will be held for seven-year Big Pine resident Gladys Marie Purves. Born Feb. 12, 1932 in Los Angeles, Gladys died peacefully at her home on Dec. 18, 2005 after a two-year battle with cancer. Her loving family was by her side. Gladys lived her early years in many places, including Montrose and Hollywood, Oklahoma City, Dallas and Las Vegas. The majority of her adult life was spent in Sun Valley prior to her retirement to Big Pine in 1999, where she was able to enjoy the splendor of nature – beautifully reflected in her many sketches and paintings. She was married to Kelly Purves on Jan. 1, 1960 in Las Vegas. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who always graciously put the needs of others before her own. All who knew her will remember the fun-loving, creative and energetic was she lived her life and that her family and home were the most cherished and important things to her. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, June “Jim” McKee and Sally Myers, and her only grandson, Lee. She is survived by her loyal and devoted husband, Kelly, who lovingly cared for her until the end; sons, Jim, Ray and David; daughter, Kelly; sister, Leigh Peacocke of Tucson, Ariz.; nieces, Carol Bryam of Tucson and Anne Schelm of Monrovia, Ind.; nephew, Richard of Tucson; grand-nieces, Sara and Erica Peacocke; sister-in-law, Sandra Glaser; nieces and their husbands; Shannon and Cliff Johnson and Tana and Kevin DeSousa; and man devoted friends.
