Final Rites Held For Grace Standard Of Independence Friends were saddened to hear of the sudden death last week on Tuesday, May 29, of Grace Gertrude Standard of Lone Pine. Mrs. Standard became ill and was taken to Southern Inyo Hospital shortly after midnight on Tuesday and a heart condition was reported to be the cause of her death at 6:30 that same morning. Mrs. Standard was for many years a resident of Lone Pine, having come here in 1912. She was born in Toledo, Ohio, January 10, 1888. In 1909 she was married to Louis Swingrover in the territory of Arizona. While in Arizona she traveled with her husband during the time he was engaged in stringing power lines across the state, an interesting and exciting experience which took them to many different parts of the country during 1909 and 1910. Two children were born to the Swingrovers, Melvin G. of Lone Pine, and Velma Croghan of Los Angeles. Another experience early in Mrs. Standard's life was the fact she operated the first telephone exchange installed in Long Pine, located on the site of the present Lloyd's Shoe Store. This position she held from 1913 until 1917. Her last position, prior to her retirement, was with the telephone exchange in Beverly Hills. For several yars she made her home in Los Angeles and in 1958 returned to Lone Pine where she continued to reside until her death. She is survived by her two children, Mel and Velma, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held from the Church of the Nazarene in Lone Pine Saturday, June 2, at 2 O'clock with the Rev. Jack Scharn conducting the service. Interment was in Lone Pine cemetery. Pallbearers were Ernest I. Lasky, Don Branson, Bobby Miller, Jack Burkhardt, Joe Graham. Out-of-town relatives here were Mr. and Mrs. Ira Kensen of Reno, Velma Croghan of Los Angeles, and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Graham from Pasadena.
