Sgt. Harvey Clifford Ferguson Graveside services for longtime Owens Valley resident Harvey Clifford Ferguson, 67, will be held on Thursday, Jan. 30, at the Independence Cemetery at 2 p.m. The Highway Patrol and the Masonic Lodge will perform rites. Born to Clifford and Ellen Erickson Ferguson in Antioch on Aug. 4, 1935, Sgt. Ferguson died on Jan. 22 at the Tahoe Pacific Hospital in Sparks, Nev. A retired California Highway Patrol officer, Sgt. Ferguson's family moved to Concord, Calif. and later to Milwaukee, where he graduated from Boys Technical and Trade School. He then moved to Southern California where he attended Los Angeles City College and Chaffey College. He met and married Gretchen Simmons in 1957 and joined the Highway Patrol the same year. In 1975, he transferred to the Owens Valley, serving at the Lone Pine office, where the couple made their home. He retired from the Highway Patrol after serving for 25 years, and later moved to Bishop. He loved hunting, fishing and gunsmithing. He was an active member of the Lions Club and Masonic Family. He was preceded in death by mother, Ellen Frances Ferguson. Sgt. Ferguson is survived by wife of 45 years, Gretchen of Bishop; son, Daniel Edward Ferguson of Ferndale, Wash.; grandsons, Nicholas and Alexander, of North Carolina; and stepdaughters, Melissa of Washington and Jan of Virginia.
