Wife and Mother Taken One of the saddest occurrences in Bishop was the death of Mrs. Hattie Bell, wife of Henry J. Bell, at the family home at 11 O'clock last Thursday night. Her health has been poor for a long time, and some time since she made a trip to Los Angeles for special advice. Physicians consulted there gave no hope, and said that death might come close upon apparent fair health. That proved to be the case, for she was feeling quite well on the day of her death. Medical aid was called in, but nothing could be done to avert the end. Mrs. Bell was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Vagt, whose home during the latter part of their lives was at Camp Independence. She was a lady held in high esteem by many friends, and her loss is the deepest of bereavements to her husband and the three children who survive her. She has a sister residing in Big Pine and a brother in San Francisco, both of whom were here. To those who are afflicted by this blow the sympathy of many is extended.
