Howard A. Hoskins Former Resident, Dies on Dec. 27 A former resident of Independence, Howard A. Hoskins died Dec. 27 and funeral services were conducted Dec. 31 at the Turner Funeral Home, Wofford Heights, Calif. The Rev. Lawrence A. Meade officiated and interment was at the Kern Valley cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Hoskins came to Independence in 1948 and built their home on West Main Street in 1949. Mrs. Hoskins - Gladys - was active in Sunday school and church work during their residence in Independence. They left Inyo county in 1952 because of his health and spent several years in San Bernardino County and other parts of California better suited to his condition, coming back for short visits with friends here almost every year. They enjoyed fishing in the many lakes and streams of the state. About a year ago, the Hoskins moved to Lake Isabella and in the summer moved to Kernville. They visited friends in Independence and Bishop during the Christmas holidays. Mr. Hoskins was born in Nebraska on August 21, 1885. Before his retirement he was an auto mechanic. His death was sudden caused by an acute coronary thrombosis. Sincere sympathy is extended to his wife and other relatives by friends of this area.
