Jack Conrad Gibford 1920 - 2003 Per his request, no services will be held for Jack Conrad Gibford, who died Oct. 16, 2003. Jack, the son of Emma and Basil George Gibford, was born in Riverside Country on Feb. 7, 1920, where he lived until he joined the Army during World War II, serving not only in the South Pacific but in the final battle of Okinawa. He and wife Margaret were married in Seattle, Wash. The day before he was deployed to the Pacific Theater. When he was discharged, they made their home in the San Jacinto/Hemet area before moving to Bakersfield, where Jack owned a toy shop. In the 1960s, the couple moved to Big Pine to Jack could recuperate from Valley Fever. He was a longtime member of the Carpenter's Union, but his passion was mining, which he was able to pursue here in the Owens Valley for many years. Jack is survived by several nieces and nephews and his loving wife of 58 years, Margaret. Donations in Jack's memory may be made to the Baptist Church in Big Pine at P.O. Box 520, Big Pine, CA 93513.
