Jack Morgan Dell Funeral services for Jack Morgan Dell, 83, will be held Wednesday, Oct. 6, 11 a.m. at the Owens Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lone Pine. Pastor Ben Sparks of the Mt. Whitney Baptist Church will officiate, along with representatives of the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Dell died Oct. 2 at his home in Lone Pine. Mr. Dell was born May 3, 1916 in Brooklyn, N. Y. to William G. "Weiser" and Eleanor Dell. He was born the same year that his father "Weiser" Dell pitched for the Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1916 World Series. Jack Dell and his wife, Chrystale, were former Owens Valley residents of Big Pine, Independence, Bishop and most recently Lone Pine. Some of his retirement years were also spent in Fallon, Nev. Mr. Dell retired from the City of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power in the Owens Valley in 1973 as a senior line foreman with 27 years of service. He served in the Navy durinG world War II(orig. sp.) and was a charter member of the American Legion Glacier Post 457 in Big Pine. He was also a member of Inyo Lodge #221, Free and Accepted Masons in Independence. He gave freely of his time for youth baseball activities, both in the Owens Valley and Los Angeles areas. He was one of the founders/creators of the Little League program in the Owens Valley with "Owens Valley American" in 1953. His wife of 59 years, Chrystale, preceded him in death last year. Survivors include daughter Lola Powell of Eugene, Ore.; sons Thomas M. Dell and his wife Kathy of Simi Valley, and William A. Dell and his wife Marilyn of Lone Pine; and many grandchildren. Interment, with full military honors, will follow the services at the Mt. Whitney Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the charity of the well-wisher's choice.
