James A. Skinner 1930 - 2003 A private family service will be held at a later date for James A. (Caesar) Skinner. Born in Chicago, Ill. On April 3, 1930, he died Oct. 22, 2003 at his home in Bishop. Jim had resided in Bishop with his wife Barbara (Young) Skinner, for the past 10 years. Jim served in the U.S. Navy for four years, during the Korean War, as a quarter master seaman. He was a teacher and had taught special education for the San Bernardino City Unified School District, until his retirement. He is survived by his wife Barbara, who was born and raised at Plant 4 and is the daughter of Billy and Nellie Young. Barbara's family comes from a long line of pioneer settlers at George's Creek near Manzanar, where her great grandfather, John Kispert, homesteaded. Jim loved this valley and he and Barbara returned to her parents' home in Bishop after retirement, to care for Barbara's mother. Jim admired the beauty of this area and enjoyed the many friendships he made at Sierra Flex Gym. He is also survived by six children, Jessica Ragan of Phoenix, Ariz., Jenny Moseley of Yucaipa, Patrick Skinner of Redlands, John Van Dusen of Carrollton, Texas, Joanne Van Dusen of Bullhead City, Ariz. and Patty Franklin of Woodinville, Wash.; four siblings, Ruben Skinner, Marian Scheithauer, Mary Beohler and Elsie Arneri, who all reside in the Chicago area; and eight grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Laws Museum or Hospice of the Owens Valley.
