James Bruce Arbuckle 1933 - 2003 A brief memorial service for James Bruce Arbuckle, 69, will take place Saturday, May 10, 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Big Pine, 293 Chestnut St. A special gathering of family and friends will take place at the Country Kitchen restaurant in Big Pine following the services. Jim was born Nov. 20, 1933 in Moore, Okla., and died May 6, 2003 in Reno, Nev. He grew up in Richmond, Calif. where he graduated from high school. Later, Jim and his family moved to Big Pine where he owned and operated the Country Kitchen for the past 30 years. Jim was a veteran of the Korean conflict and served his country proudly as a Teletype Radio Communications Specialist. He served aboard the U.S.S. William Mitchell troop transport form 1952 - 1956. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Liz Arbuckle of Big Pine; two children, Cheri Arbuckle of Carson City, Nev., and Clifton Arbuckle of San Luis Obispo; four grandchildren, A.J. and Nichole Fimbres of Carson City, Dustin and Colton Arbuckle of San Luis Obispo; brother-in-law, Roy Jennings of Vallejo, Calif., sister, Judy Spottswood of Jacksonville, Fla.; and several special nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that there be a memorial scholarship fund created in the name of Jim Arbuckle and his Country Kitchen to further the higher education of students at Big Pine High School.
