James Earl McLaughlin 1936 - 2003 A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 26 for longtime Bishop resident Jim McLaughlin, 65. Born in Baker, Ore. On Oct. 13, 1936, Mr. McLaughlin died on April 22, 2003 in the Desert Regional Medical Center in Desert Hot Spirngs. Jim worked for the United States Forest Service for 35 years, retiring in 1991 from the Inyo National Forest. He was instrumental in setting up the interagency dispatch center, and the opening of the tanker reload base. He also worked for the Inyo County Jail as a jailer for two years. He then went to work for Stovepipe Wells in Death Valley as a maintenance man for about five years. He relocated to Desert Hot Springs in 1998, where he was the maintenance man for the senior mobile home park where he and his wife, Pita, resided. He is survived by his wife, Pita; sisters, Louise and Adel of Washington; sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Sunter of Hemet, Tom and Barbara of Desert Hot Springs, Ted and Debbie of Bishop; daughter, Tammy of Visalia; 12 grandchildren, Amy, Nathan, Jonathan, Niomai and Jessica McLaughlin of South Carolina, Amber, Theresa, and Kaitlyn McLaughlin of Desert Hot Springs, Zach and Heather McLaughlin of Bishop, and Candace and Caleb King of Visalia.
