James John Olds

1903-2003

Funeral services will be held for former Inyo County 
resident James John Olds, 99, on Saturday, March 22, at 
the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 
Gardnerville, NV at 10 a.m.

Born to Charles Luther Olds and Marie E. Evans in Bishop 
on April 6, 1903, Mr. Olds died on March 19, 2003 at his 
home in Gardnerville.

Attending grammar school and high school in Bishop, Mr. 
Olds married Blanche Irene Hardy on Oct. 24, 1928 in Reno, 
NV. They built their first home in Coleville, while James 
worked for the California Division of Highways (for 41 
years, retiring in 1966), helping to build Sonora Pass 
Road and Walker River Canyon Road.

James moved to Gardnerville in 1989 to live with his 
daughter. He also lived in Olancha and Independence.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche, in 1981, 
and by his parents, and seven brothers and sisters.

James is survived by daughters, Alice Smalley of 
Independence; Lillis Hunter of Gardnerville; Norma 
Rutherford of Carson City, NV; and Mary Gunn of Pleasant 
Hills; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and four 
great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions in his name can be made to the 
charity of the donor's choice or to Barton Hospice 2092, 
So. Lake Tahoe Blvd., No. 200, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150.

Interment will be on Tuesday, March 25, in Bishop at 
11 a.m.
