Final Rites For James Mills Friday, July 5 James Sidney Mills passed away Sunday, June 30 at So. Inyo Hospital after a prolonged illness. Graveside services were held Friday, July 5, at Lone Pine cemetery with Rev. Robert Hensley officiating. Mr. Mills was born Aug. 1, 1872, on a farm near Hiawatha, Kan., where he grew to manhood. He and his parents moved to Shawnee, Okla. where he met Nellie Moyle, and they were married and had two sons, Cecil and Leo. Nellie passed away in 1902. About 40 years ago he came West with his brother an went into the hotel business in Portland, Northbend and Eugene, Ore. It was at Eugene he met a school teacher, Mrs. Frances Clark, and they were married and came to Lone Pine in the latter 1920’s. She passed away in 1948. When he moved to Lone Pine he operated the local pool hall, which is the present location of Chalfant Press. After disposing of the pool hall he went to the Dow Hotel as assistant manager where he remained until he retired. He was known as Uncle Jim to the youngsters, and always had a piece of candy to give them. Pallbearers were Jack Barnes, Wm. Bonham, Steve Novak, Perry Pratt, Jack Wilson and Tom Vucinich. Out-of-town relatives attending services were Leo Mills of Topeka, Kan.; Cecil Mills of San Pedro; and Mrs. Rex Clark of Palos Verdes.
