Tony Ochoa 1916-2004 Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2 at the Mt. Whitney Cemetery in Lone Pine for John Anthony (Tony) Ochoa. Reverend Father Doug Walker of Santa Rosa Catholic Church in Lone Pine will officiate. Military rites will be performed by Lone Post 8036, Veterans of Foreign Wars, under the direction of Frank Diaz, Post quartermaster. Born Feb. 8, 1916 in Lone Pine to Morriso and Blanche Savedra Ochoa, Tony died Sept. 24, 2004 at his home in Lone Pine. He was 88. Tony attended Lone Pine schools and graduated from Lone Pine High School. After high school, he worked for several years in the area mines and in 1940 he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign during World War II. He was honorably discharged on July 4, 1945. Later, Tony went to work for the City of Los Angeles, department of Water and Power, and retired approximately 20 years ago. He was a life member of the Lone Pine VFW and member of the Catholic Church. He was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking and keeping his car in immaculate condition. Tony never married. However, he is survived by longtime friend, Tecla Vandras of Rosamond and her daughter, Carole Meza of Baldwin Park; and his two cousins, Frank Lowe and his wife Sherry of Mira Loma and Donald Lowe and his wife Joyce of Bakersfield.
