John Dixon At Bishop, Inyo County, CA, August 30, 1802, John Dixon, aged 59 years and 11 months. (Deceased was born in England, but came to the United States in early youth and has ever been a stanch American citizen and a true Christian. He came to this valley, accompanied by his devoted wife, a few weeks ago from Iowa in the vain hope of restoration to health from a most painful malady from which he had long suffered. Here, with his son, Professor W. G. Dixon and other members of his family, was to have been his home. He lived for his family; to educate his sons and daughters has been his life's work; as shown by an incident elsewhere mentioned, education was in his thoughts down to the very portals of death. Besides his wife and two sons here, he leaves a son a cadet at West Point, and two daughters - one in Cornell College - Iowa, and, though a stranger to us all here, we may safely say all who ever met him, deeply mourn his loss. Evidentially the world is bettered by such men.) The Inyo Register Bishop, Inyo County, California Thursday, Sept 1, 1892 - Page 3 Transcribed by Pat Houser for Inyo County GenWeb, June 5, 2004
