John Raymond Mathieu 1930-2004 Services will be held at 10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Bishop for John Raymond Mathieu. A graveside service will follow at the East Line Street Cemetery in Bishop. Born in Inglewood to Bertha and John Mathieu, John spent his early life in Benton and Bakersfield, attending school in both areas. He spent a great deal of time on the family ranch in Benton until entering the Army, where he was stationed in Puerto Rico for two years. After the Army, John returned to Bishop where he pursued a career in mining and construction. While in Bishop at that time, he met his wife of 46 years, Patricia Ellis. John was a member of the Masonic Lodge, VFW, Operating Engineers, and Bishop Elks Lodge. He was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors. His grandchildren were the light of his life. John is survived by his wife, Pat; son and daughter-in-law, Forest "Frosty" and Evamarie Mathieu; daughter Dorine Mathieu, daughter and son-in-law, Geraldine and David Tanksley; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Ronald Richmond and their family; sisters-in-law, Eileen Leslie, Norma Samari, Bobbie Godown, Gerry Kerley, Carol Nichols and Barbara Webster; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. John enjoyed being the very proud grandfather of twins, Melissa and Shannon Kelley, twins, David and Katie Tanksley, and Lauren Dunlap.
